This is Ron Rudie from Ollatha Colorado, on LZ Reflections on WRJO radio in Rhinelander, Eagle River, and Minocqua, WI. wishing all the Veterans in Northwoods Wisconsin and Upper Michigan a very sincere, and warm and reflective Memorial Day. I was in the United States Air Force Medical Corps from December 7th, 1966 to March 18th, 1968. I lost my arm above the elbow, during that time and was out at the west gate of Fitzsimmons Army General Hospital in 1968. When I reflect on Memorial Day it's a multitude of memories, the same as all of you, some good, some sad. A lot of people don't realize how we can reflect and have a warm feeling, and have a tear sneak down the cheek. When we were sixteen Rock and Roll was Jimmy Dean and we got to Nam, whether it is in a chopper in the jungle under going the yellow rain it took on a different meaning. When I see The Traveling Wall and see the friends and my buddyies that didn't come back, nags in the back of the mind ones you never found out. But you see your spirit's beside you, above you and around you. When you stand in front of that Wall, it warms their spirit when we honor them. And in honoring them we honor ourselves. Again, the best in this time |
